The Bible offers guidance to every area of life.  Homeschoolers have taken to heart the verses e.g. in Deut. 6:4 to teach their own children.  Yet beyond that decision, many homeschoolers do not know what the Bible says about how to actually teach.  The models of great teaching which the Bible provides get lost and parents instead go searching for books to do the teaching.

Our goal is to help you to use the Bible more effectivly in your own home and to use it for teaching every subject. But just how that is done can be difficult for many reasons.

One reason that teaching from the Bible tends to be difficult is that we don't have that foundation as a culture any more. Most parents today were raised in the public school system which has tried to ignore God at best and at worst suppress any information about His handiwork. So as home educating parents we are having to rediscover the skills of teaching and to learn God's plan for the different subjects.

At Bible First Family Ministries we want to help you to change this around. We do this through workshops, seminars, and materials that will help you to learn to make teaching easy and to lay a proper BIBLICAL foundation.

And we want to do this in ways that are encouraging, memorable, and sometimes even fun!

 

SEMINARS THAT WE OFFER:

Spell to Write and Read:
This hands-on seminar demonstrates how to use spelling as the foundation for teaching writing and reading. It is helpful for all grades pre-K to 12. In this two-day seminar we provide an overview of the program, its methodologies, and historical background. For the greater part of the course we will teach you as if you were the child learning from scratch. This experience with you being the student will help you better understand SWR and give you confidence to teach the program to your children. Learn how to teach English in a logical, consistent way regardless of the student's ability level.

Bible First Seminar:
This is a one and one half day seminar that will get you up and running. We will equip you with the ability to teach all subjects using a Biblical methodology. We will bring support materials that you will most likely find helpful in using the Bible. In addition this engaging seminar will help you to use your own materials more effectively for greater retention.

Who among us has not agonized over the “right” selection of materials for our children?  Learn some proven techniques for teaching that will revolutionize your approach to education, maximize individual learning styles and ensure success for all students.

Giggles and Grace in the study of Grammar
Are you afraid to teach grammar?  Are your students loath to learn it?  Rather than dread it, grammar can become a meaningful and fully-applied discipline and it can be fun, too!  Come learn a few foundational principles so confusion can be diffused and everything — including comma rules — will fall into place.  

“Write Methods” of Spelling
HOW you teach can be as important as WHAT you teach.  But most moms end up adopting the methods of the public schools for lack of training.  Spelling is the one subject in which skills have declined more than any other.  Even homeschoolers don’t score as high as previous generations on college entrance tests.  But the Bible is plentiful in teaching methods which are supported by sound research.  In this workshop you will receive practical help implementing teaching approaches proven to work for all types of students and to raise foundational spelling skills.

From Fear to Writing for Eternity
Turn writing from a boring, stress filled, or even a painful subject.  It can be made pleasant and enjoyable for both moms and kids.  We present a Biblical method of teaching writing which is easy for the student to follow in achieving better writing.  And it contains an easy system for grading the work.  Instead of getting groans over writing assignments, you just might hear, ‘Yes!  I can do this.’.

Putting the BIBLE FIRST in All Subjects

Protecting Precious Preschoolers from Educational Predicaments
The educational rush for earlier and earlier schools for young children is pervasive in our society.  Forcing academic “schooling” on children too young sets them up for educational burn-out and discipline issues.  Yet educational psychologists claim that more than half of a child’s learning occurs in his first few years.  The preschool mind is like a sponge.  What is a careful homeschool parent to do?  Becky shows simply how to make the most of educational opportunities with preschoolers that don’t set them up for dangers.  She offers tips on multi-level teaching, including teaching school-aged children with a toddler in the house.

Mission Statement:
Our mission is to equip teachers and parents with Biblical methods of education and supply materials which will aid them in training their students to excel in Biblical reasoning skills. The ‘more noble Bereans’ is the model to follow in any subject of study.

Statement of Faith
We believe in the whole counsel of the Bible. That is our guide for every aspect of life. Our Statement of Faith is consistent with the Apostle’s Creed.

Compensation
We are aware that every organization differs in size, budget, and method of providing honorariums and reimbursements. Consequently, we have no set fees or expectations, but are generally willing to accept invitations under whatever terms are normal and reasonable for the event. Additionally, we are willing to barter for booth space.

Equipment Needs
The Keynote talks do not require any special equipment. The grammar, write methods, and reluctant writer talks, however, are best taught when an overhead projector is available because the group is guided through the grammar and editing, writing, and spelling processes. For smaller groups, a white board is sufficient. If no equipment is available, we can do without.

Do people leave your talks thinking they need to buy a product?
Although our company does sell educational products and we always plan to participate as an exhibitor at your event, all our presentations are specifically designed to be self-contained, practical, inspiring sessions that do not indicate any need to purchase additional materials. In fact, we often forget to even mention that we have a booth or anything to sell.
